About Us

At Pikin Dem Academy, we celebrate every child’s potential. Rooted in love, culture, and community, our name—“Pikin Dem”—means “children” in Sierra Leonean Krio, and reflects our deep commitment to nurturing young minds in a joyful, inclusive environment.
We use the HighScope Curriculum, a nationally recognized, play-based approach that empowers children to make choices, solve problems, and build confidence through hands-on learning. Our educators guide and support each child’s unique journey, fostering independence, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.

Whether you’re a parent looking for a safe and inspiring place for your child, a community partner, or a funder who believes in educational equity—we invite you to join us.
Our Mission
Nurturing Academic and Creative Growth
At Pikin Dem Academy, our mission is to provide a multicultural and multilingual environment where children can engage in various educational activities that enhance their academic skills and creativity. From language immersion programs to hands-on exploration in science and art, we aim to instill a passion for learning while celebrating cultural diversity and individual expression.
Cultural Celebration
We believe in promoting cultural representation and diversity through creative projects and activities. Our emphasis on cultural expression, such as traditional storytelling and art from around the world, encourages children to embrace their heritage and appreciate the richness of different cultures.
Meet Hadiatu
an educator, advocate, and proud African immigrant originally from Sierra Leone. I’ve always believed in the power of community, culture, and care, and that belief is at the heart of everything I do.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Njala University in Sierra Leone and a Master’s in Elementary Education (Literacy Option) from The University of Akron in Ohio. Education has always been my passion — not just as a career, but as a calling to uplift and empower children and families, especially those who are often underserved or overlooked.
